Nokia: Future mobile phones will no longer have Zeiss optics
Another smartphone camera partnership has come to an end. HMD Global has now confirmed that it has ended its long-standing partnership with camera company Zeiss. Bad news for fans of the brand.
The statement said the partnership between the two companies is ending. The Nokia XR20 was HMD Global's last phone with a Zeiss lens. HMD Global gave no reasons why the cooperation with Zeiss was terminated.
Nokia and Zeiss had a long partnership that began when Nokia itself was still making smartphones. Even when the smartphone business went to Microsoft and then HMD Global licensed the smartphone business, the partnership endured.
HMD Global has not revealed why the partnership ended. One assumption is that you want to save costs and thus save license fees if you do without the Zeiss branding.
