Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC is slated to launch in May
There are rumors that Qualcomm will launch a Plus variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The upcoming flagship chipset for smartphones is expected to be launched later this year. Rumors have it that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra and a Motorola flagship codenamed Frontier will be among the first smartphones to feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC.
The American chipmaker has not yet announced its official plans to release the Plus variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. A new leak has now revealed that Qualcomm will introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chip itself in the first half of 2022.
According to a report, Qualcomm will unveil its new flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC for Android smartphones, in May 2022. OnSiteGo's report, citing tipster Yogesh Brar, says the company will announce the chipset in early May 2022. There is no official word on this yet.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ has the model number SM8475. It will be based on a 4nm manufacturing process. The report goes on to say that Qualcomm will choose TSMC's manufacturing process over Samsung's as it has proven to be more efficient and offers better yields.
Additionally, the report states that smartphone OEMs are already getting their hands on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, as well as the upcoming Snapdragon 700-series chipsets, which will debut around the same time. Smartphones with the Snapdragon flagship chipset will be available from early June 2022. The list of phase one customers includes Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus and Xiaomi.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will feature some performance improvements over the current flagship chipset. Also, it will likely be a bit more efficient compared to its predecessor.
