Samsung no longer restricts the Galaxy S22 in Germany
Samsung deliberately made its smartphones slower without telling customers. When the case of the app brake became known, Samsung had to react quickly and has now presented a solution via update, at least for the Galaxy S22 smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy S22: Update removes app brake
Update from March 20, 2022: After the update for the "Game Performance Management Mode" of Samsung's Galaxy S22 smartphones was distributed in South Korea, the release in Europe has now also taken place. The new update no longer limits the performance of the CPU and GPU in games (source: Samsung). Now the update has also arrived on our Samsung Galaxy S22. You should also be able to download the update.
Original article:
At the beginning of March it was announced that Samsung was making many apps slower with the "Game Optimizing Service" so that they could not develop their full performance. So you want to reduce the heat development and optimize battery life. A short time later, an investigation was launched against the group in their home country. It is not yet known what the outcome will be. However, Samsung has already announced that it will solve the app brake with an update and that is exactly the case (source: XDA).
The new update for the Galaxy S22 smartphones introduces a "Game Performance Management Mode". That's exactly what Samsung previously announced. One would like to give the users the choice of how the performance of the smartphone is deployed. So games are not automatically slowed down, but you can decide for yourself when and if this is the case. We did not notice any bad performance in games with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (for testing) and S22 Plus (for testing).
When and if the update will also be distributed in other countries is not known. Samsung is likely to react so quickly, especially in its home country, as an investigation is being carried out there. The practice has also caused disappointment worldwide, but according to the current state of knowledge, Samsung does not have to fear any legal action. Even so, the company would be wise to roll out the update everywhere so as not to disappoint its customers.
What the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra can do:
Weren't apps throttled by Samsung at all?
According to Samsung, only the performance of games will no longer be affected. However, the app list of 10,000 applications also included apps such as Netflix and Co. It is unclear whether the apps were also throttled and whether a change will follow there. We are sure that the story is not over yet and will be investigated further.
