{Disarmed} Samsung is adopting wallpaper-based color themes from Android 12
Samsung started yesterday to distribute the second Android 12 beta of its One UI 4.0 user interface to users for testing. And Samsung cannot avoid taking over the new material You from Google. Surprisingly, the "Dynamic Color" function with wallpaper-based color themes can be found in the beta.
The nearly 1 GB Android 12 Beta 2 for the Galaxy S21 series brings some notable changes to One UI 4.0. According to Samsung's changelog, there is a new microphone mode for video calls, a fix for an issue with Secure Folder, improved accuracy of the Samsung keyboard, and several other minor improvements.
The biggest change, however, is the support for Dynamic Color. This Android 12 feature is prominently used in Material You on Google's Pixel phones, but has not yet been discovered on a third-party version of Android 12. So now with Samsung.
As with the Pixel phones running Android 12, One UI 4.0 can now capture color schemes based on the current background image and apply that accent color to different parts of the operating system. These include the lock screen, quick settings, and the settings menu, among others. The effect isn't quite as obvious as with the pixels, but it's still nice to look at.
Samsung is also adopting the Google theme tool, which generates a small color palette from the background image and offers the user a few variations. However, by default the tool still uses the typical blue color scheme.
To access the new color theme tool on a Samsung Galaxy S21 running the second Android 12 beta, you need to go to the "Background Image" tool. From there, "Color Theme" will appear in the list of options and you can choose whether you want to apply it or leave the colors on the blue standard theme.
