AirPods: Apple has longed for functionality
Anyone who owns the AirPods Pro or the even more expensive AirPods Max was looking forward to a useful feature with the appearance of iOS 15. However, Apple postponed the function, but now it is laudable. In particular, forgetful contemporaries will thank Apple.
Update from October 6, 2021: With the latest firmware updates for Apple's headphones, published a few hours ago, the manufacturer provides the gear reduction for the "Where is?" Network (source: MacRumors). Thanks to the long-awaited function, AirPods Pro (firmware 3E751) and AirPods Max (firmware 3E756) can be found and located in an emergency - equivalent to Apple's AirTags. There was also a firmware update for the simple AirPods, but the function mentioned is only available for the two expensive models.
The update process is usually started automatically without any action on the part of the user. If you want to "force it", you should simply put the headphones in the charging case, connect them to the network and then couple the AirPods with the iPhone. The update should then be imported after a short time. Don't forget: iOS 15 is required for the latest feature.
Original article:
Actually, with the release of iOS 15, the support of the "Where is?" Network for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max would have been due. But nothing will come of it at first. On the American website, Apple is currently adding a footnote to the corresponding announcement and promising: "Later this fall." The information has not yet made it to the German feature page for iOS 15, so the delay has yet to be added (source: Apple).
AirPods Pro and Max have to wait first
Users should therefore take better care of their headphones and keep an eye on them, because when looking for misplaced AirPods Pro and Max you cannot go back to "Where is?". As with the AirTags and other devices, iOS 15 would have been able to find the headphones in an emergency . Specifically, this is how it works ...
Even more features are to come for the AirPods - to be seen in the video:
If lost AirPods Pro or AirPods Max get near other iPhones, iPads or Macs, the "Where is?" Function can pass on the approximate location of the headphones securely and confidentially - worldwide. The feature then helps to play a sound within Bluetooth range of the AirPods so that they can then be found accordingly. By the way, it's not the only feature of iOS 15 that 's not going to be released until late . We can see from the Apple website that this also applies to SharePlay in FaceTime and other features, for example.
iOS 15 is also available for old devices
After all: the update to iOS 15 is compatible with all iPhones and iPads that are already using iOS 14 . Older devices such as an iPhone 6s or even an iPad Air 2 can look forward to the support. IOS 15 was released on September 20th.
