Google Maps: There is no navigation without consent
Google Maps is one of the most popular apps in the world. Anyone who owns a smartphone has probably used this application for navigation at some point. In order for route planning to continue to improve, Google needs user data. Those who do not share this will be excluded.
Google Maps: turn-by-turn navigation against data only
An important change is pending for Google Maps. From now on, a new message will be displayed when starting the navigation app on Android and iOS. Google explains in an overview how user data improves the navigation of Google Maps. In this way , the company collects a lot of information about the GPS signal that is used during navigation. So Google knows where you are, where you are going, how long it takes you, whether you are running or driving and much more. This data helps make Google Maps better. Therefore, everyone should agree to its use. If you don't do that, you will be punished.
For the US colleagues, the notice was displayed in the latest version of the Android apps from Google Maps and they did not agree with "Cancel". In that case, Google Maps will change. You can basically continue to use the app, but you no longer have turn-by-turn navigation with voice prompts , you only get a list with instructions for navigation. This is of course an extremely severe downgrade.
Google has announced that they want to be more open with the personal data they collect. That is just the consequence of it. If you want to use a state-of-the-art app for free , you also have to provide something for it . With Google Maps, it is the movement data that the company can use to improve navigation.
In the video we give you a tip for Google Maps:
Will this system be extended to other Google apps?
Basically everyone knows that Google processes our data in order to operate the services and to earn money with them. It is quite possible that Google Maps is just the beginning .
