{Disarmed} Realme GT and Realme GT Master Edition: The double test report
And once again I have a double test report for you, which means that 2 smartphones have found their way to me to test. First the Realme GT, which has been available for a while, and then the brand new Realme GT Master Edition. Many thanks to Realme for making the two models available to me.
The Realme GT was kindly provided to me in Dashing Blue with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB and the Realme GT Master Edition in Voyager Gray with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB. Thanks a lot for this! However, this has no influence on the test result.
scope of delivery
The Realme GT and Realme GT Master Edition come in the well-known elongated Realme packaging. This is very high quality, made of sturdy cardboard. The most important key-specs of the device can also be found on the back of the two boxes.
Inside, in addition to the actual device, we also find a transparent silicone cover, a USB C cable, the SIM eject tool and the 65 watt charger. There are no headphones. The scope of delivery is identical for both models.

Processing & haptics
Both models are equipped with a frame made of plastic with a high-gloss finish. And there we already have the first reason why the two models are relatively cheap despite the good equipment. Because both with the Realme GT and the Realme GT Master Edition, the frame feels neither particularly high-quality nor stable. If metal had been used here, the devices would have had a significantly higher quality finish.
Fortunately, the rest of the body is better built. With the Realme GT, glass with a high-gloss finish was installed on the back, here in Dashing Blue. Looks really good, because of the gradient to almost black, depending on how the sun falls on it. The disadvantage of high gloss is, of course, that it is a real fingerprint magnet.
With the Realme GT Master Edition, I had the color Voyager Gray with the suitcase-like back to test. And I liked this one particularly because it feels really good in the hand and has a really good grip. Another advantage, you won't find fingerprints on the back here. The idea of designing the back in this way can be described as successful. Other manufacturers should also consider implementing this. Away from that same glass on the back.
Otherwise there is nothing to complain about, the rest of the workmanship is on a standard for its class with no outliers up or down.
Display
Both models have the same 6.43 ″ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. These have a FullHD + resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels, which is completely sufficient in everyday life. And for me the display is the highlight of the Realme GT and the Realme GT Master Edition.
Because, as it should be for an OLED display, the colors are reproduced very realistically, the black level is very good (not to be expected otherwise with an OLED display) and the viewing angle stability is more than okay, you can also do this with one cursory glance from the side see everything well.
The brightness is completely sufficient; the displays could only be a little brighter in direct sunlight. But there is really nothing to complain about with the displays, good panels were installed here.
You also have different color modes to choose from, so that you can set up the display the way you like it. With the "screen color temperature" you can also adjust a little here.
camera
In principle, both models have almost the same camera setup. The Realme GT consists of a 64 MP main sensor (Sony IMX682, f / 1.8, 26mm, 1 / 1.73 ″, 0.8µm , PDAF) + 8 MP ultra wide angle camera ( f / 2.3 , 16mm, 119˚, 1 / 4.0 ″, 1.12µm ) + 2 MP macro (f / 2.4). A 64 MP main sensor (Sony IMX682, f / 1.8, 25mm, 1/2 ″, 0.7µm , PDAF) + 8 MP ultra wide angle camera ( f / 2.2 , 16mm, 119˚, 1 / 4.0 ″, 1.12µm) + 2 MP macro (f / 2.4) installed. As you can see, there are hardly any differences.
Daylight shots are well done, and the dynamic range is better with the automatic HDR. There's an AI mode that detects different photo scenes and automatically adjusts the camera settings to enhance the colors. The 2x zoom is good, but as soon as you want to zoom beyond that, the quality drops as it is a digital zoom. Portrait mode is decent and the 2 MP macro camera is useless, so it's better to use 2x zoom with the normal camera.
Low-light shots are acceptable, but there are manufacturers who do a better job in this price range. Night mode does it better, but it still has noise. There is also a Pro or Pro Nightscape mode, for which a tripod is required. There is also a mode for astrophotography that also requires a tripod. The small 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens isn't all that bad. You can take good pictures with it, without strange nooks and crannies.

All in all, it can be said that both models produce really nice photos in good lighting conditions. However, when the light gets worse, you notice that you are reaching your limits. They are not flagship sensors and the software is certainly not as good as Google, Oppo or Huawei.

Nevertheless, you get a decent camera for the price, which is a little more convincing in the Realme GT Master Edition.
Software & performance
The Realme GT and Realme GT Master Edition run Android 11 with the Realme UI 2.0 user interface. Everything is a bit reminiscent of Stock Android, is just a little more colorful, but still quite fast. You also have many setting options in the software, so you can change the colors and the symbol style, among other things.
Tap-to-wake up is available, which means that by tapping twice on the switched-off display, you can switch it on and also switch it off the other way around. Unfortunately, Realme also offers a whole range of bloatware, Booking.com, WPS Office, LinkedIn and Netflix. But everything is easy to uninstall if you don't want to use any of the apps.
The Realme GT has installed the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, the Master Edition the Spadragon 778G. In other words, the currently best flagship SoC against one of the best mid-range SoC. On paper and in benchmarks, the Realme GT is of course much better positioned and faster than the Master Edition, but in everyday life you almost never have the feeling that the SD778G is really slower. Benchmarks and everyday life are just two completely different pairs of shoes.

There is no stuttering in either model, everything runs smoothly and quickly. Thanks to the built-in 120 Hz display in both smartphones, everything seems a little faster. Apps start and close very quickly on both devices. In the end, the Realme GT with a maximum of 12 GB RAM and the SD888 is ahead in extremely complex processes, but let's be honest, who has that regularly?
However, what has a problem that the Realme GT also struggles with is the heat development. And the manufacturer is not to blame for this, it is due to the built-in Snapdragon 888, which also ensures that other models are significantly warmer than smartphones with other processors when used for longer or longer periods of time.
speaker
Stereo speakers were built into the Realme GT, they are sufficiently loud and deliver a clear sound. But if you turn up the volume, the sound becomes significantly worse, which was to be expected. But that doesn't make the competition any better or worse.
With the Realme GT Master Edition, however, the manufacturer only uses a mono speaker, which is a bit of a shame. Here, too, the louder it gets, the more unclean the sound becomes.
However, both models offer the possibility that you can set your own profile. Thanks to "Real Original Sound Technologie" you have the modes film, game and music on offer. You can then choose what you like best according to your personal taste.
battery pack
A 4,500 mAh battery is built into the Realme GT. Thanks to the included power supply unit, it can be charged with up to 65 watts. This means that the battery will be charged from 0 to 100 percent in just over half an hour. A slightly smaller 4,300 mAh battery was installed in the Realme GT Master Edition, and the 65 watt power supply is also included in the scope of delivery. Here, too, it takes just under half an hour to fully charge the battery. Wireless charging is not possible with either.
Although both batteries are actually quite large, both devices cannot really be called endurance runners. Sure, you can get through the day, but that's about it. If you skimp on the screen-on-time and hardly do anything on the device, then one and a half days are certainly possible with both.
Nevertheless, the battery life of the Realme GT Master Edition is slightly better than that of the Realme GT, despite the smaller battery. Could be due to the processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G is probably a bit more frugal than the Snapdragon 888. It should be noted that heavy users should hardly have a battery at the end of the day, with the Realme GT much more than with the Master Edition.
Conclusion
What is left at the end of the day? Both models are particularly convincing due to their price. And the built-in display is not a matter of course in this price range. If you then see the SD888 in the Realme GT, you could speak of a flagship.
Where there is a problem, however, are the cameras of the two devices. Here you get rather average. So you can tell that Realme had to save money somewhere, and that is with the cameras of the devices. Here you sometimes get better bids from the competition. Still, it has to be said that the cameras are not bad, just average and nothing extraordinary that the devices can score with.
The battery life is also somewhat limited. The batteries are empty relatively quickly, but fortunately they are recharged in no time. Nowadays that is no longer a problem, you can quickly put it in the can for 10 minutes and you have juice again for half the day.
I think the Realme GT Master Edition is the more successful model, it seems somehow rounder to me. If I had a choice, I would choose this one. If you mean, "The Realme GT has the SD888 instead of an SD778G" then it should be said that you don't notice any difference in everyday life.
You can buy both models without hesitation, but if you are spoiled for choice, then go for the Master Edition.
