{Disarmed} Porsche Mission R: the 100% electric racing prototype with which they promise up to 1,088 hp and 75% charge in 15 minutes
The Munich Motor Show is being a non-stop and we are seeing numerous proposals in electric cars . In addition to the Mégane E-Tech and the arrival in Europe of Great Wall , the one that made its star appearance has been the concept car Porsche Mission R.
While the Mégane was a production model with its almost final look, the Porsche is a prototype that shows what the manufacturer sees in the world of non-combustion competition. A 100% electric racing car designed for the different phases that a driver encounters in the championships and that boasts power and fast charging.
Natural fibers on the outside and high power on the inside
Porsche explains that, having entered Formula E, what they are now showing is the next step in their Porsche Carrera Cups , but with 100% electric cars. And being a car designed for GT competitions, it has a very low and obviously sporty design, with two side air intakes with three slats each at the front, a colorful (adjustable) spoiler on the rear and the characteristic lines of the Stuttgart-Zuffenhaus sports cars.
The new concept car measures 4.326 meters in length, 1.99 meters in width and 1.19 meters in height, thus being somewhat shorter than a Porsche 718 Cayman , but wider and lower. The bodywork is largely made of flax fiber reinforced plastic , a material that is also used for the side skirts, diffuser and front spoiler lip.
Inside we do not see those flashy and elegant interiors of the most ambitious consumer electric cars, but a cabin designed for competition. Although it does include a touch screen in the center and there is the option of incorporating cameras inside, to provide the usual shots of the drivers during races.
In xiaomist.com The 17 fastest and most powerful electric cars: up to 2,000 hp and speeds above 340 km / hWith four-wheel drive, it integrates two electric motors: the front produces up to 435 hp (320 kW), while the rear provides up to 653 hp (480 kW) of power. With this, the Mission R promises to reach 1,088 horsepower (800 kW) and accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 2.5 seconds, something it achieves in "qualification mode", according to the brand. .
The battery has a capacity of around 80 kWh and integrates an energy recovery system so that sprinting in races can be carried out without loss of power. The maximum charging power is 340 kW, being able to charge the battery from 5 to 80% in 15 minutes , as detailed.
With all this, Porsche explains that the Mission R can do the same times per lap as its Porsche 911 GT3 Cup , counting on a constant power of 680 hp (500 kW) in "race mode". In relation to this area, the Mission R incorporates an alert system by means of LEDs that will warn if the car requires trained personnel in high voltage (lighting in red).
We will be attentive to what this striking prototype ends up in. As you might think, this time it is not a car that will go into production and be sold, but the brand seems quite certain that it will be a model that will end up on the tracks and thus free up other competitions of carbon dioxide.
