{Disarmed} OnePlus brings Hasselblad XPan mode to the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro
Today, co-developed by OnePlus and the Hasselblad Imaging Team, the Hasselblad XPan mode was introduced for the two flagships OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. This should usher in a new era of mobile smartphone photography.
What is the XPan mode? XPan mode is a photo setting jointly developed by the OnePlus imaging team and the Hasselblad camera team, and is inspired by a unique camera, the Hasselblad XPan. The XPan camera was a milestone for Hasselblad.
In the OnePlus 9 series, the XPan mode replicates the special Hasselblad XPan photo approach, from widescreen recording to color mode to the selection of the focal length, which in a sense completes the digitization of the Hasselblad XPan camera, and the unique shutter sound at the end is a kind of ceremony.
In this mode, users can choose between two classic focal lengths, 30 mm and 45 mm, which both call up the ultra-wide-angle camera and the main camera, the former better for oversized landscapes and the latter better for street shots, portraits, cities and others suitable for human scenes.
Thanks to its own 65:24 ultra-wide-angle format, the camera can record richer subject information, regardless of which focal length is selected. For comparison, the phone's standard viewfinder format is 4: 3 or 16: 9, which shows how wide it is.
It's also worth noting that the XPan mode's color style is different from the standard mode. It is black and white by default and can be changed to color by clicking the "Film" button.
Since XPan is a product of the film era, the process of photo editing on film, i.e. negative development, is simulated, which is why you have to wait 1 to 2 seconds after taking a photo in this mode to see the finished photo. This also predestines XPan as a slow photo mode that is relatively well suited for creative work.
