{Disarmed} Lithuanian government takes action against Xiaomi
Xiaomi has made a real triumphant advance worldwide in the last few months. Of course, they also benefited from Huawei's decline. One European country isn't too happy with Xiaomi's advance into the region, however, and that could inadvertently help Samsung.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has urged citizens to throw away smartphones of Chinese origin because they seem to "censor" terms at will. The National Cybersecurity Center also claims that the censorship functions "have been turned off for European models but can be reactivated at any time".
"We recommend not buying new Chinese cell phones and getting rid of those you have already bought as soon as possible."
Margiris Abukevicius, Deputy Minister of Defense of Lithuania
While Lithuania has not yet completely banned Xiaomi and other Chinese manufacturers, this is quite possible given the mounting tensions between the two countries. On the other hand, Xiaomi is not really present in Lithuania either. Market research shows that Xiaomi has a market share of around 8 percent in the country.
On the other hand, Samsung is the most popular manufacturer in Lithuania with a market share of around 35 percent. Even if Samsung took over all of Xiaomi's previous sales in the region, it wouldn't mean a huge increase.
