The Acer Swift 3 is an old acquaintance in the ultrabook world. With a base price of around 1000 euros, this laptop does not compromise at the design level and focuses on the elementary.
The chassis is metallic , with aluminum and magnesium-aluminum alloy as the base. This allows you, in the model with a diagonal of 14 inches and without being limited in terms of performance or battery, not to exceed 1.2 kg in weight .
Its robustness, resistance and low weight is the trio of most outstanding design features of the Acer Swift 3The appearance of the Acer Swift 3 notebook is stylish and weather resistant . Its thickness of 1.6 cm does not make it among the thinnest on the market, but it is not at all uncomfortable to carry from one place to another both in the hand and in a backpack.
Acer's Swift ultrabooks usually offer high detail in their finishesThe case is pleasant to the touch, with smooth, beveled edges. Opening the screen, which cannot be done with one hand, slightly raises the laptop base to improve ergonomics and cooling.
The exterior design of the Acer Swift 3 is limited to the brand logo. As for the interior, the silver tone is maintained even on the keys , which gives it an extra differentiation.
Under the screen, with contained frames, a cooling grid is located that occupies just a third of the length of the notebook. The rest of the air outlets / intakes are already placed in the lower part, where the two main speakers of the laptop are also fixed.
As for the available ports, I consider them adjusted to the profile and use of this type of equipment.
On the right side we have a Kensington security lock, the headphone / microphone combo and a USB-A port. There are also the power and battery indicator LEDs. Interestingly, the power button has been placed inside, integrated into the first row of the keyboard.

The model that we have analyzed accompanies this Ryzen 7 with 16 GB of LPDDR4X memory and a 256 GB PCIe SSD. This amount of storage is the weakest point of its interesting technical sheet. For performance, as we see below, nothing to object.
Regarding raw performance, the Acer Swift 3 has maintained a very good performance in our tests, achieving high scores in benchmarks such as 898 points in CineBench R15 (47 fps in OpenGL) re or 4008, 5085 and 5212 points in the PCMark Home, Creative and Work tests respectively. These are figures slightly lower than those we get with the Ryzen 7 4800U in laptops with identical characteristics.
At the graphics level, where last year's Ryzen 7s outperformed Intel's equivalents, we have noticed that the Intel Xe perform better on these types of computers. The Acer Swift 3 was less than 900 points for Time Spy and 2138 for Fire Strike, all of them 3DMark tests.
In operation, I was positively surprised that the notebook is silent for the vast majority of the time we work with it. Only with the most demanding graphics is when we can hear the cooling system, but always with a low margin of work.
Regarding heating, only in the air outlet area is the heat noticeable , always controlled, but nowhere on the keyboard, touchpad or wrist rest is there any sign of heating.
The Acer Swift 3 model we have reviewed comes with Windows 10 Pro and the expected add-on software, from Radeon graphics management to Acer team management / control applications. And some bloatware mainly basic games and antivirus demo versions.
Autonomy for a working day
With a battery of slightly less than 50 Wh , the autonomy of this equipment remains within the acceptable limits for a device that we intend to carry with us and that, at least during a work or study day, does not require charging.
The Acer Switch 3 offered us between 7-7.5 hours of real autonomy , with a varied workload including some gaming, video playback, office automation, social networks and a lot of web browsing.

Comfortable keyboard and precise touchpad
The Acer Swift 3 , like other ultrabooks, faces the complexity of providing the best keyboard and touchpad experience that the small size available allows.
The keyboard, for example, sacrifices the size of some secondary keys (or dividing the Enter key) and the numeric part so that the main base maintains dimensions that allow comfortable typing . And so it turns out, both for its good size and for the correct response of each key and its path.
What can be improved on the keyboard, as sometimes happens with those who bet on different tones and silkscreens, is the display of the keys. The silver tone of the same together with the little contrasting color of the silkscreen has not been visually comfortable for me when the ambient light is low and especially when activating the backlight .
In that regard, the keyboard of the Acer Swift 3 has a lot of room for improvement because it only supports one intensity (on or off) in the keyboard backlight.
The touchpad , which uses up all the space available to it in the design, is comfortable to use and very precise , which allows you to use gestures under Windows 10 without missing too much larger dimensions.
