US judge blocks TikTok ban, demands US justification
The United States Department of Commerce had issued an order to ban WeChat and TikTok from Google's app stores to Apple. But American judges block the decision.
After the WeChat ban was rejected by a US court, a possible TikTok ban has now also been lifted by a judge.
The judge said the government must "respond to TikTok's motion for an injunction or delay the order by 2:30 p.m. EDT Friday."
Similarly, in California, where a federal judge issued an injunction to block the ban on WeChat - another platform owned by a Chinese conglomerate Tencent. According to TikTok, the restrictions are "not motivated by a real national security interest," but rather are used as leverage in the upcoming general election.
Last Saturday, after "positive developments", there was another type of delay in the ban - Walmart and Oracle are reportedly joining forces on the purchase of a small stake in TikTok Global - a new ByteDance subsidiary.
