In Polish, you will be able to watch the report from the start on the Astrofaza channel.
According to plans, the Perseverance rover will reach Mars in February 2021. In addition to it, the Chinese Tianwen-1 mission, which includes an orbiter, lander and rover, and the Hope orbiter built by engineers from the United Arab Emirates, is heading towards the Red Planet.
Perseverance will be looking for life on Mars
The Perseverance rover is a rover in size resembling the only currently active Martian rover - the Curiosity. Just like it, it resembles a small car, and its weight is 1043 kg.
Looking for traces of past life on Mars, Perseverance will also collect more interesting rock samples, pack them in special containers that, according to NASA's plans, will be taken from the surface of the planet and delivered to Earth as part of subsequent Martian missions.
Along with the rover, the first Ingenuity robotic drone / helicopter weighing 2 kg will also be selected to go to Mars. It will be the first flying apparatus that will fly over the surface of another planet.
Due to the distance from Earth and signal delays, Ingenuity will have to make its own decisions during the flight, including choosing a convenient landing site. NASA engineers admit that the helicopter mission is a high-risk experiment and its failure will not affect the rover mission in any way.
