Rocket Arena - a new player in the e-sports arena
This text was created right after the inter-editorial tournament at the Rocket Arena, which - although it turned out to be a record short event for our editorial team - I liked it very much. Mainly due to the light breeze of freshness in the Rocket Arena mechanics.
I will not say, I am satisfied with the tournament participation. For centuries have passed since the last time I had the opportunity to play a game of points, with voice communication, focused on competition, etc.
Currently, I don't have much time for such games, which probably translated into the result of our first and last match in the tournament itself, but what's up, on Discord almost immediately someone threw the idea that in total it can sometimes be played in Rocket Arena together .
The game itself is quite pleasant
Rocket Arena is a mix of Super Smash Bros, Overwatch and - due to the very nice rocket jump mechanics, which always has an honorable place in my heart - Quake. And when it comes to the style, you have to add Fortnite to this list. Such a fashion, you see. The matches are played in teams of three, and the condition for winning is pushing our opponents behind the board. The team that does it faster wins.
The game seems to be well thought out. I will not risk saying that it is well balanced, because I played it only a few days. For now, I like the way in which all currently available maps were designed. It's about the ability to move on them in all three planes, which is encouraged by the previously mentioned rocket jumps , or so-called triple jumpy (after jumping from the ground, we can bounce twice more in the air).
Taking a good position somewhere high in most games seems like a good idea. The very dynamics of the game, however, means that man quickly rejects the concept of sticking too long in one place. Lack of movement results in an immediate targeting of our character by other players, which - as it happens with every brawler - quickly ends in death.
The second reason that encourages you to constantly move around the board are the so-called artifacts, or randomly appearing items that give us a temporary advantage over the opponent. In a word, if you want to win, then you need to move, and by the way know all the maps inside out.
10 unique heroes and 5 game modes
For now, players have 10 different heroes at their disposal. Each of them has several special skills and a unique basic attack. In addition, individual characters differ from each other at the speed with which they move on the map. Is the difference between the individual characters large enough to disturb the balance of the game? It is difficult to say so far. If this is the case, let's hope that EA will react on a regular basis and temper too strong heroes.
In addition to the classic knockout brawler mode, Rocket Arena offers three other PvP and one PvE modes. Other PvP modes are:
- Rocket ball - instead of throwing players out of the board, we play football. Just like in the Rocket League
- Stalking - the team that first collects a certain number of coins wins
- Megarakets - the mode of domination with a slight twist, which consists in the fact that the zones we have to take over are not permanent. Nice idea and a lot of running.
As for the cooperative PvE gameplay, it is available in the form of the classic horde mode, in which together with other players we will shoot cheerfully at bots, attacking our three-person team in waves.
Hit or putty?
Rocket Arena is definitely a game with potential. However, it is difficult to assess how many players will abandon Fortnite, Overwatch and other games with her much longer experience in the esports yard. The idea of throwing opponents off the board, despite the fact that it is not new in itself, allows you to rest from the typical gameplay model in currently available shooters.
Nowadays, just making a good game is not enough. So a lot depends on the manufacturer himself and how he will start supporting this production in terms of e-sports. However, apart from playing seriously, Rocket Arena is a game that offers fast, quite fun (it's best to play with friends) matches during which a lot happens.
The first season of Rocket Arena starts on July 28, so if you are not going anywhere on holiday then it's worth taking an interest in this event.
