Qualcomm Snapdragon 875: details leaked, code name Lahaina
As usual, Qualcomm's next-generation flagship platform, the Snapdragon 875, will be launched in the fourth quarter of this year. But we have to wait until the first quarter of 2021 to find the new flagship SoC in a smartphone.
New details about the upcoming SoC of the next generation have now been released. Roland Quandt has revealed that the Snapdragon 875 (SM8350) will bear the internal code name Lahaina. The name is a city on Maui, one of the seven Hawaiian Islands.
An earlier leak indicates that the next generation Qualcomm chipset will be called Snapdragon 875G instead of Snapdragon 875.
The flagship processor will be manufactured in the 5 nm process. Qualcomm is reported to launch an architecture combination of Cortex X1 + Cortex A78. ARM Cortex X1 is said to have 30 percent more performance than that of the Cortex-A77 architecture and 23 percent higher than the maximum performance of the Cortex-A78 core. The machine learning ability is said to be twice that of the Cortex-A78.
In addition, Qualcomm will no longer use an external baseband design on the Snapdragon 875G, but the baseband chip will be integrated into the processor, which will improve performance.
