Microsoft s game show was won by Game Pass and PlayStation 5
Microsoft had several months of development silence and almost unlimited resources to prepare for today's presentation. Despite this, the Greens missed the opportunity. After the show, I have no reason to buy the Xbox Series X. But I'm very impressed with the Game Pass offer.
Hello Infinite! I really did not expect this. I assumed the FPS would squeeze all the juice out of the Xbox Series X. It would be a graphical benchmark showing the power of the platform touted as the most powerful upcoming console. Meanwhile, Infinite looks like a visually correct open-world game for the current generation consoles. The title in no way overshadows such series as Assassin's Creed or Far Cry. In addition, it is clearly uglier than Horizon Zero Dawn or Ghost of Tsushima.
Microsoft made the fatal decision to keep the new games compatible with XONE and XSX.
For the next several months, development studios financed by Microsoft will produce games that run simultaneously on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. This is a very pro-consumer attitude. Unfortunately, such a decision turns the Xbox One family into a metal ball at the foot. Last-gen platforms will hold back creators for a long time to come. Hence, no exclusive title from Microsoft will be truly next-gen. Level architects, mission writers and many other specialists will continue to have the limitations of the Xbox One at the back of their heads.
A prime example of this is Halo Infinite. Barely visually correct, without much panache, looking like any kind of PS4 game. Before the show, I thought that it was around Infinite that Microsoft would build the narrative around. Today I have no doubt that the new Halo is not able to sell as many X Series Xboxes to beat Sony and their PlayStation 5. What's more fun, Microsoft will release an update after the launch of Infinite, improving the visual aspect. The game will be implemented, among others raytracing.
The biggest winner of the show is Game Pass.
Neither the console nor the video game won the presentation. The service did. Game Pass promises to be an extremely favorable offer, thanks to which we will play a lot of games for modest money. From the perspective of the less wealthy players in their wallets, this is excellent news. No other console manufacturer offers such a customer-friendly, so wide, so rich loyalty program. Revelation.
However, Game Pass is not enough for me to buy the Xbox Series X for the premiere. Especially that I will play the latest Halo and the latest Forza on the Xbox One X. I do not see any point in buying a new Microsoft console. But I see a lot of sense in buying a new Sony console. That's why I think they are opening champagne corks in Japan.
