TSMC 3 nm test production postponed to 2021
TSMC was scheduled to begin production testing for its latest 3nm manufacturing process by the end of 2020. But that's not going to happen, TSMC has postponed its 3 nm test production to 2021.
However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, TSMC had to postpone its plans until early 2021. This is just as good news for Samsung as the hope of being able to catch up with the world's largest chip manufacturer.
Now the 3nm trial production line, which should be in place by the end of this year, will not go into operation until the first quarter of 2021 and mass production will begin sometime in 2022.
Samsung had also announced a shift in mass production of its 3 nm process to 2022.
According to an official TSMC statement , the company is currently concentrating on its 7 nm and 5 nm processes. There are currently various orders, with pressure and tight deadlines in the way, especially with a view to Huawei.
