This is the Tamron 28-200 mm f / 2.8-5.6 Di III RXD
Holidays are coming, and it's the perfect time to take pictures. It is no wonder then that the Tamron 28-200 mm f / 2.8-5.6 Di III RXD lens saw the light of day every day. What's so special about it? This is the first zoom of this type with f / 2.8 light for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
As Marcin wrote a few days ago , it happened. Here is the extremely versatile Tamron 28-200 mm f / 2.8-5.6 Di III RXD lens. We know its price and full specification.
Huge focal range and dimensions as standard zoom.
This compact lens is only 11.7 cm long and weighs 576g. Despite the large focal range, this lens has exactly the same dimensions as the popular Tamron 28-75 mm f / 2.8 Di III RXD model and is smaller than other megazooms available on the market. The lens is moisture resistant thanks to the use of rubber gaskets inside the structure. The front lens is covered with a fluorine coating that protects the lens against water condensation, greasy marks and dirt, and also makes it easier to clean. It's impressive.
The lens construction has 18 elements, including two LD (Low Dispersion) and one XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) lenses to reduce chromatic aberrations and allow good quality to be obtained throughout the image. The BBAR coating is to reduce the effect of flares or glare. The manufacturer states that at a focal length of 28 mm, the minimum focusing distance is 19 cm and the zoom factor is 1: 3.1. At 200 mm, it is 80 cm and 1: 3.8, respectively.
Tamron 28-200 mm f / 2.8-5.6 Di III RXD was also equipped with a RXD AF stepper motor, which was specially adapted to the sharpening system technology used in the mirrorless cameras. It should be fast, precise, very quiet and great for recording movies. The design allows smooth transitions, supports the functions of quick switching to manual focus (DMF) and Eye AF developed by Sony.
In this model, as in previous Tamron lenses from the line developed for Sony cameras with E-mounts, the diameter of the 67mm front lens is used, and thus the filters. This is practical because all lens models can use the same filters, such as a polarizing filter.
Tamron knows how to make good all-in-one lenses, and the new design may be the most interesting of them.
The all-in-one lens, or spacer-zoom in Polish, are constructions that theoretically are able to replace several glasses in one. These are lenses with a very wide focal range, associated by many with photo-Janusz rather than serious photographers. Many photographers complained about their poor performance and image quality. They were dark, giving a vague picture. Over time and the development of optics universal zooms very mature. Today, these are full-fledged lenses that can be safely recommended. Tamron, thanks to that, has been producing many models of this type for many years. Everyone was better than the previous one. And the latest Tamron 28-200 mm f / 2.8-5.6 Di III RXD may be the most interesting spacer-zoom on the market.
It offers a very wide focal range at a reasonable light. Usually, constructions of this type are very dark, start from f / 3.5 or worse. Here we have f / 2.8. In addition, this lens is small and light for this type of equipment. And quite reasonably priced: at 3.99 thous. zł.
For comparison, a much darker Canon RF 24-240 mm F4-6.3 IS USM, it costs about 4.4 thousand. zł. There are also constructions created for cameras with APS-C sensors. Nikkor Z 24-200 F / 4-6.3 VR is 100 zlotys cheaper and also dark, Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18-135 mm f / 3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR was valued at approx. 3.2 thousand. PLN, and Sony E 18-200 mm f / 3.5-6.3 OSS LE, costs 2.8 thousand zł. As you can see, there is not much to choose from.
I'm rather calm about the quality of the new lens, but the optical possibilities are a mystery. If the designers managed to take another step forward and the new 28-200 mm f / 2.8-5.6 will offer a sharp, nice picture, then it can be a hit. Full-frame cameras are used by more and more people, older bodies can be bought for the price of a new iPhone. It is nice that the owners of such cameras will be able to reach for such a universal lens, ideal for traveling.
The first copies of the Tamron 28-200 mm f / 2.8-5.6 Di III RXD lens will hit Polish shelves in July.
