Explosion? Does not matter. SpaceX wants to send Starship into orbit later this year
Despite the massive explosion in which the fourth prototype of Starship was destroyed, Elon Musk's company is still planning to tear Starship away from Earth this year.
Starship is a completely new rocket, which in the future should carry up to 100 people flying towards the Moon or Mars.
I expect the first test flights, say 150 m, in the next few weeks - says Hans Koenigsmann. We plan several such flights. - If everything goes according to plan, we would like to get into orbit by the end of the year. Of course, it may take a little longer - he adds.
Explosive tests
This is surprisingly optimistic information, considering the explosion of the fourth prototype (SN4) of the rocket last week, which exploded on Friday at the Boca Chica complex in Texas.
Unfortunately, what seemed to us a routine test of quick disconnection of the valve turned out to be a big problem - Elon Musk told press representatives.
However, such explosions should be expected given the methodology of work adopted by Muska. According to SpaceX, advanced projects are developing the fastest, testing subsequent iterations on an ongoing basis and introducing further necessary corrections. Four Starship prototypes have already been destroyed in the last few months, but the last of them has survived much more tests than the previous three. Meanwhile, the fifth prototype is ready for its first tests.
The reduced Starshipper prototype Starhopper has already made its first test flight to a height of 150 m last year.
