A new Tamron lens is coming for Sony FE. Perfect for holiday getaways
If you are looking for one universal lens, Tamron is preparing a sensational premiere. The Tamron 28-200 mm f / 2.8-5.6 Di III RXD is coming, which is a very wide focal range with really good brightness.
A long weekend begins in a moment, and soon there will be holidays. Although this year hardly anyone will decide to go abroad, but nothing stands in the way to finally calmly photograph Polish landscapes.
And if you are preparing a trip and finally there is time for photography, then you need to think carefully about the equipment, right? We all know it well. Should you take the phone? And what about bright primes, 50 mm or maybe 35 mm this time? And what if you throw this recently bought manual lens into the bag and finally check what it can do?
Sometimes, the selection of equipment can take as much time as the choice of place to visit. It also happens that we end up with a heavy bag full of photographic clamps and annoy the family with continuous juggling of lenses.
I managed to stave off this stage and for a long time I have been taking only one lens for private trips, including a prime lens. For a long time it was 50 mm (initially on the Nikon D750, later on the Sony A7 III), but recently I fell in love with the Sony FE 35 mm f / 1.8, which perfectly shook my needs for family, hobby and travel photography.
However, there are people who can't stand a single prime lens for anything. For them, Tamron is preparing a great walk-zoom .
For several days, Tamron has announced the premiere of a new lens, which is expected to debut this Thursday. It is to be an "all-in-one" zoom lens, designed for full-frame Sony FE cameras.
The new Tamron lens appeared pre-release in the B&H store , so we know almost everything about it. The new construction is the Tamron 28-200mm f / 2.8-5.6 Di III RXD, so we are dealing with a very versatile and surprisingly bright lens.
A lens with 24-200 or 28-200 focal range tries to combine two in one. A single instrument offers focal lengths, which we know from the basic 24-70 (or 28-70) and 70-200 lenses. The first is a universal zoom with a basic range, and the second is a basic telephoto lens.
As a rule, putting a wide range of focal lengths on a single lens results in very low light. Lenses 28-200 generally have a brightness of f / 3.5 - 5.6. There are also constructions of similar range with brightness f / 3.5 - 6.3 or f / 4 - 6.3. Colloquially speaking: there is no madness .
Meanwhile, Tamron showed the first lens with a large range, which on the wide end offers f / 2.8 light, known from professional zooms. It promises to be very, very interesting. The more that the lens is small, because its size resembles the famous Tamron 28-75 mm f / 2.8.
Unfortunately, the B&H store did not disclose the price of the new Tamron. If it is maintained at a reasonable level, a hit is planned.
Tamron has been doing a lot of good for the photo market in recent years.
The premieres of Tamron lenses designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras are very widely heard. It started with the mentioned Tamron 28-75mm f / 2.8 Di III RXD, which was later joined by a wide-angle and very well priced 17-28mm f / 2.8 Di III RXD, as well as the latest, already noticeably more expensive 70-180 mm f / 2.8 Di III VXD.
Tamron doesn't go to extremes. He does not claim to be doing most lenses in every respect. It is not the second Sigma, which in pursuit of record optical quality is able to let go in the field of mass, size and price. Tamron tries to balance all factors, proposing somewhat compromising lenses in terms of image quality, but well priced.
I am very happy that even in 2020 on the difficult photo market there is room for constructions that do not kill with prices. I hope that the price of the new Tamron 28-200 mm will not be exaggerated either.
