Lenovo takes bars with Microsoft. Yoga Duet 7i and IdeaPad 3i is a direct copy of Surfaces
Initially, Microsoft Surface devices were supposed to be a benchmark for partners, how the parent company of Windows 10 sees computers with this system. Few, however, dared to copy them as directly as Lenovo did.
I look at Lenovo's new products and see Surface Pro 7 and Surface Go 2. Behind the new hybrids - Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i and Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3i - exactly the same design idea is behind the "folding" from Microsoft.
Both devices also have optional LTE connectivity.
Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i hits straight on Surface Pro 7 .
A glance at the new Lenovo hybrid is enough to know who it intends to compete with. It is a concept alive taken out of Microsoft projects - from the detachable keyboard to the built-in stand that can be adjusted at different angles.
The Lenovo tablet has a slightly larger screen than the Microsoft tablet. Thanks to the slimming of the frames, the relatively small housing fits a 13-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2K. The panel is of course touch-sensitive and works with the stylus, which - like the keyboard - will be included in the set. The display achieves a brightness of up to 450 nits and covers 100%. sRGB color space.
The beautiful screen will certainly attract the attention of photographers and designers, especially since the Yoga Duet 7i has quite powerful components under the hood. In the most powerful variant, the Lenovo tablet drives the Intel Core i7 10. Gen. processor with Intel Iris Plus graphics, supported by 16 GB of RAM and even 1 TB SSD. The built-in battery is enough for over 10 hours of work.
All this is enclosed in a beautiful metal housing available in two colors - gray and light purple.
The Lenovo tablet has another ace up its sleeve. Like Surface Pro 7, it has a camera and an infrared sensor to unlock the device using Windows Hello. In addition, it also has presence detection functions from Mirametrix. The computer will recognize itself when someone looks over our shoulder or stops playing video when we leave the screen. It will also be possible, for example, to move the active window from the tablet screen to the screen of an external monitor using only the movement of the head.
The Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i with keyboard and pen is expected to go on sale in June this year, at a price of 1199 euros and above.
Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3i is trying to nibble on Surface Go 2 .
I write "trying" on purpose, because at first glance it may have a problem with that.
IdeaPad Duet 3i looks like a thumbnail of the larger Yogi Duet 7i. It has a similar, metal housing, but it is much smaller, because the device has a display with a diagonal of only 10.3 ", Full HD resolution and a brightness of 330 nits. The whole - including the keyboard - weighs about 860 g.
As for the keyboard, Lenovo used a different approach than Microsoft in this case. Although the accessory can be connected directly to the tablet, it can also be used independently thanks to Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.
However, the components used are worrying. If Surface Go 2 was slow, what else can you think about a device that even in the top versions will be powered by Intel Pentium processors and only eMMC memory (up to 128 GB)? He is also worried about the expected working time, which is to be barely 7 hours. As manufacturers are usually not true when it comes to actual working time, IdeaPad Duet 3i probably won't work too far away from the socket.
However, we will find out about this at the earliest in July, when this device will hit the market. We will pay at least 429 euros for the tablet and the included keyboard.
