The creator of The Witcher will produce breathing aids
Michał Kiciński, co-creator of The Project and the Witcher CD, wants to produce breathing apparatus for patients infected with Covid-19. Mudita is now looking for a partner.
Mudita is the name of the company Michał Kiciński, i.e. the co-creator of the first game in the Witcher series from 2007. The Polish entrepreneur was, along with Marcin Iwiński, a co-founder of CD Projekt. He is still the owner of the company's share package, but he left the company in 2012.
Thanks to this, Mudita was created
Michał Kiciński was looking for a job for a long time, until he came up with the idea that he would create ... mobile phones. However, he did not take smartphones like Andy Rubin after leaving Google or brother Pablo Escobar. Mudita products, which one of the Witcher creators brought to life, are ordinary telephones.
These devices are not characterized by a wealth of functions, but their lack. Still, Mudita Pure, the first product in the brand's offer, has collected over a million zlotys on Kickstarter. Against all odds, "a telephone that can't do anything, " although it costs as much as PLN 1,500, proved to be quite a success before the premiere.
Now engineers from Michał Kiciński want to manufacture breathing apparatus.
Mudita in collaboration designed a "simple and inexpensive to manufacture fan for COVID-19 patients" called Breath. However, this is not a respirator. The device is to deliver oxygen to the lungs of people who do not have access to professional equipment in life-threatening situations.
As a technology company, we now have the opportunity to support doctors locally in Poland and around the world. It's a race against time, but we decided to act - says Michał Kiciński, the founder of Mudity
The project involves a team of engineers, electronics, mechanics and programmers, assisted by Dr. Dominika Drobiński, an anesthesiologist from the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration in Warsaw - the same who has been transformed into an infectious hospital due to an ongoing pandemic. In addition, the company is assisted by dr hab. med. Michał Wszoła, surgeon and transplantologist.
Other doctors and medical staff from the Research and Development Foundation are also working on the Mudita Breath device.
The construction of the device is based on the so-called AMBU bag, which is a simple set for resuscitation and respiratory ventilation that is included in every medical unit. It is enough to connect an oxygen source, i.e. a bottle, to help patients suffering from coronavirus.
There is a catch, however. For AMBU sack to work, you must use muscle strength. Breath from Mudity means that doctors, nurses or paramedics do not have to squeeze the bag with muscle strength. The first prototypes have already been created, which promise to be really promising.
Mudita has developed a mechanism that, by compressing the AMBU bag, injects oxygen into the patient's lungs. The doctor does not have to do it manually, but can set parameters such as the volume of air pumped into the lungs or the frequency of compression. Pressure sensors constantly monitor the pressure mechanism of the AMBU bag - we read further in the press release
Of course, there is still a long way to go from design to finished product. Mudita has no factories or capital to fill her entire production line. It is for this reason that Michał Kiciński and his colleagues look for partners who will help in the production of the device.
Currently, work is underway to obtain the necessary certifications to enable mass production of Mudita Breath. Michał Kiciński and the team encourage you to contact us about this at covid19@mudita.com.
