Nikkor Z 85 mm f / 1.8 S - missing portrait for new mirrorless cameras
Nikon is constantly developing the lens system for full-frame Z-series mirrorless cameras, such as the Nikon Z6 . The new Nikkor Z 85 mm f / 1.8 S is a very important glass - basic portrait photography at a reasonable price.
When I started my adventure with photography a good 14 years ago, the lens type 85 mm f / 1.8 (or its equivalent) was the second most popular prime glass, immediately after costing several hundred zlotys 50 mm f / 1.8. These lenses were not only good and cheap, but also cheap and good. Well, maybe not as cheap as for those times (50 mm f / 1.8 it cost three times less) and not so good, but it was still popular. Besides, there was not much choice.
Today the situation is completely different. The new 85 mm f / 1.8 glasses are not so cheap anymore, but they offer much more. And it's still popular classics for portraits. Bright, sharp, giving beautiful bokeh. Such glass was very missing in the new Nikon Z system. Until today.
The Nikkor Z 85 mm f / 1.8 S is designed for high resolution and natural bokeh
The producer praises his new lens as a high resolution glass with equal resolution all over the frame, but also a natural but effective blurring of defocus. What more could you want from such a lens?
High quality of the image is to be due to 12 elements arranged in 8 groups. The system includes 2 special lenses made of ED glass. These elements have been coated with Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings, the aim of which is to improve the image quality when working in difficult lighting conditions.
The beautiful bokeh is to be due to the 9-leaf aperture with the f / 1.8 aperture, which we will close to f / 16. The diameter of the front lens is 67 mm, and the minimum focusing distance is 80 cm. A strong point of construction is also autofocus with a stepper motor and internal focusing.
The Nikkor Z 85 mm f / 1.8 S will cost about $ 800
We do not know the official Polish price, but you can expect an amount of about 3500-4000 PLN. There are several lenses of this type on the market, but of course all with other bayonets. The most popular on the shelf is the popular Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f / 1.8G for SLRs, which can be purchased for about 1,900 PLN.
In the Sony system, we have Sony 85 mm f / 1.8 FE, costing about PLN 2,500. In Canon we only have an old model Canon EF 85 mm f / 1.8 USM. In the competitive Canon RF system is the infernally expensive Canon RF 85 mm F1.2 L USM in the price of over 13 thousand. zł. We also have Tamron SP 85 mm f / 1.8 Di VC USD with a bayonet mount for Nikon reflex cameras, which costs about 3500 PLN.
Thus, it can be seen that new constructions of this type are much more expensive than older glasses, and their price fluctuates around PLN 2,500-3,300. The new Nikkor Z 85 mm f / 1.8 S falls into this group, but has a good chance of being optically the best lens. This is the latest glass in this group. Nikkor Z 85 mm f / 1.8 S is expected to be sold in September this year. Meanwhile, we have a handful of official sample photos.
