My worst spent PLN 200 in the history of Apple products

I will tell you about PLN 200 flushed down the toilet.

When nearly a year ago on Spider's Web we had a discussion " Smartphone in a case or without? Spider's Web Bloggers Debate , "I insisted on using the phone more nicely when it is in its case.

On the one hand, I like to admire the beautifully made devices, and on the other hand, I like to use them is simply convenient. That's why I've been using the case for years. However, if you do not use Samsung or Apple smartphones, it is quite difficult to find a really good case.

I have been doing this myself for the last few years. My problems ended when I bet on the iPhone. I bought the case the first day, choosing a great, original, Apple leather case. I love everything about him. This is how it protects the back and front of the device. How nice it is to the touch. And how comfortable and confident a smartphone is in it - that's what I wrote in September 2018.

Not much has changed since then and much at the same time. I am still using an Apple smartphone, but I switched iPhone 7 to iPhone XR . And the iPhone XR is such an ugly duckling. On the one hand, it is known that the purchase of this smartphone will be like dealing with a beautiful swan a good choice. But on the other hand, Apple doesn't take the XR seriously. The same as he did not take the iPhone 5c seriously.  

This frivolous treatment is manifested in the fact that the original XR series of silicone and leather cases was not released into the XR model.  

And they are so great! Perfectly folded. Quite durable. Pretty durable. Very nice. The advantages can be exchanged for a long time.

They are quite expensive. It's a fact. But there are even more expensive cases on the market that have more disadvantages than advantages. That's why the price for Apple cases is bearable.  

Unfortunately, a good word I can not say about the original transparent case for the iPhone XR

Transparent case for iPhone XR - is the official Polish name for something that is often called Apple Clear Case.  

The idea for the Clear Case for the iPhone XR was even cool. The XR model comes in many different colors: white, black, blue, yellow, coral and red. So it can be assumed that someone who bought a nice one coral a colorful phone will not want to pack it in an ugly case that will spoil the whole effect.

Unfortunately, Apple's Transparent iPhone XR case has several disadvantages.

First of all, after putting it on the phone, the surface of the case likes to stick to the smartphone. Then an ugly bubble turns on the glass backs of the phone. It looks very poor. I tried in different ways to put on the case and the bubble - resulting from the contact of two transparent surfaces - he likes to come back.

Secondly, the case is very scratched. The material from which they are made is soft and prone to scratches. After two months, my iPhone XR in the Clear Case looked terrible. The corners of the case were completely worn, and there was a scratch on the back on the back. I protected the phone - it's a fact. But the set (phone + case) looked terrible.

I could change my case every two months, but ... it costs PLN 200. This is the third disadvantage. The price is way too high. The competition, which has vast experience in making cases, cases and cases for smartphones, has similar solutions in its portfolio and sells them for much smaller amounts.  

And since we are already experienced in creating this type of accessories, it means that we are at the fourth flaw of the original Apple case for the iPhone XR. This accessory protects your phone quite well. It covers almost all edges tightly (except the bottom one). It protrudes above the screen, so it protects against falling flat on the display. It protrudes above the camera, so it protects the lens lens. The protruding element of the case, unfortunately, not only protects the camera, but also corrupts photos.

If you are photographing on a sunny day, it often happens that the light falling on the case is diffused by the protruding edge that was supposed to protect the camera and let into the lens from different sides, which causes flares to appear on the pictures.

Sometimes the flare in the picture can look good. There is some effect there. Sometimes such effects are even intentionally added in post-production. However, I prefer to have control over the flares by enabling or disabling the function in some photoshop, rather than by putting on and taking off the case. Sometimes, instead of removing the case, I used a visor on the other hand to protect the camera against unwanted reflections.

But let's make an appointment - it's comical. A branded smartphone for PLN 4,000, an original case for PLN 200, and the user makes a visor so that the photos do not go out of order.

The best alternative, i.e. in search of the perfect case

I quickly had enough of the original Apple iPhone XR case. That's why I started searching for the perfect case. I bought a lot. I tried on even more in the stores.

Here's what I bought, checked and even returned.

Spigen La Manon Calin (black)

Spigen La Manon Calin case for iPhone XR is very cool. Has good buttons. It is made of artificial leather, which may be a little slippery, but still comfortable. I would give him 10/10 if I wanted to buy the pink version.

Pink matches the iPhone XR perfectly. Black no longer. I think some mistake was made during production and black has looseness. The case does not adhere perfectly to the phone and when we pick it up, it creaks. The seller accepted the return and then checked several items in different stores and they all had the same problem.  

Moshi Altra Slim Hardshell Case With Strap

Moshi is a premium brand, so the Altra case costs 45 euros. In Poland, this model costs even over PLN 200.  

I chose the dark version. There is material on the back with a silicone pattern on it. The uniqueness of this case lies in the mounting of the short leash grip on the wrist. The solution may look unusual and therefore strange, but in practice it is extremely comfortable. It improves the smartphone's grip and means that we can use it safely and without fear in extreme conditions such as a crowded bus, store, train, club, festival, etc.

Unfortunately, the case is quite wide. Without a strap, using it becomes not very safe, because the grip is not sure. Second, unfortunately , is the quality of the belt clip. The element attached to the case began to detach after a few weeks of irregular use.  

The good news is that the seller has returned the money. However, I know that my case was not an isolated one. The salesman checking another copy of Moshi Altra in front of my eyes gently bent the said mount and the loud STRAP! meant that and it began to break away.  

Puro ICON Cover  

I bought a red Puro ICON Cover. It looks like the original Apple, and even better because the silicone element also covers the bottom of the smartphone.

Unfortunately, it quickly turned out that the silicone from which this case was made is completely different than Apple's. It's worse because it's less slippery. The surface of the case causes so much friction that I had a real problem with putting it in my pocket. The phone got stuck when I slipped it in my pocket and sometimes stopped halfway through the process - the case rubbed against my pants so hard.  

I was afraid that while storing the phone, it would not jump into my pocket and fall out. That's why I decided to keep looking.

Spigen Silicone Fit

I liked this model quickly, and then thanked him quickly. Reason? At first glance, it is made well, but unfortunately in the black version completely impractical. On the completely black silicone you can see sticking ferns and fibers from the clothes (from your pocket). And they stick like crazy.  

Again, this is not a silicone of this class, as in Apple accessories. If there is any dust on the Apple case, then just blow or wave your hand to get rid of it. At the same time, Apple's case is not slippery enough to make it dangerous or uncomfortable to use. Puro ICON Cover and Spigen Silicone Fit turned out to be worse in everyday use. Although they promised to be excellent accessories in the store.

Detriment.

Spigen Ultra Hybrid

We are approaching the end of my adventures with iPhone XR cases. The last purchase was Spigen Ultra Hybrid. Very good case made of flexible black plastic on the sides and transparent plastic on the back.

The keys are palpable and well cut - you can feel the click. Charging connector and speaker cut correctly. The transparent layer on the back protrudes slightly from the smartphone housing, so no bubble is created as in the original case. In contrast, the black border around the camera means that there are no flares in the pictures. The corners have delicate tabs, thanks to which the case does not touch the entire surface of the ground on which it lies. Thanks to this, it doesn't scratch.

Spigen Ultra Hybrid solved all the ills of the original Apple's transparent case for the iPhone XR. At the same time costing a fraction of the price.
