Huawei is doing competition for Google Maps. The Chinese are growing up a strong rival of Google
The Chinese are not going to wait for Trump's decisions with arms folded. Huawei doesn't want to rely on Google, so after the HarmonyOS system it's time to create your own maps.
Difficult times require difficult decisions, but above all action. Future cooperation between Huawei and Google is uncertain due to the so-called Trump's blacklist. The Chinese do not want to stay on ice, so they have already created their own HarmonyOS operating system, which ultimately has the chance to become an alternative to Android.
HarmonyOS has already hit the first device, which is the Honor Vision TV . There are also plans to distribute for watches and of course for smartphones. Unofficially it is said that the system will go to Huawei Mate 30 Lite distributed on the Chinese market. Some leaks say that the Mate 30 Pro may also have a variant that works under HarmonyOS control. We will see this in the autumn.
Would there be a system without services? Map Kit is to be an alternative to Google Maps.
Huawei intends to build its own map application that will become a Google Maps competition. The Chinese will provide a service called Map Kit in October, but initially it will be targeted at developers who will be able to implement Huaweia maps in their location-based applications.
According to Zhang Pingan, president of cloud services at Huawei Consumer Business Group, currently 50 percent the application is based to some extent on location. We are talking not only about applications to measure activity, but also about social networking sites, shopping applications, and even photo editing applications. The transition of these services to the data provided by Huaweia would allow even more independence from Google.
Huaweia maps are to be ultimately available to all users. The service will work in 40 languages and will offer live city tracking. The maps will also enable navigation, including using augmented reality through a smartphone camera. Similar solutions just goes to Google Maps .
Unfortunately, building Google Maps competition is extremely difficult. Even Apple could not cope with this task for a long time.
Even Apple, which has a huge amount of cash at first, couldn't cope with the task of creating its own maps. Apple Maps shown in 2012 had a series of mishaps and for a long time were barely poor relatives of Google Maps developed since 2005.
Today, the Apple service is already fully usable, although it remains definitely less popular than Google's solution. Apple needed several long years of work to reach this level. Huawei launches in 2019, but is not alone. The Chinese partners are two companies: Russian Yandex and American Booking Holdings.
We can expect that the operating system and maps are really just the beginning. Who knows, maybe a modern email service is waiting just around the corner?
