Question of the day: would you pay for a cheap Netflix plan only for a smartphone?
Netflix on a smartphone for many people all the time sounds like hypocrisy, and yet there is a plan designed only for smartphones. It is cheap and so far available only in India.
If Netflix, it's evening, free time, couch and big TV, right? True ... but not entirely. Although I am watching Netflix the most in this configuration, I think it is a great boon to be able to save movies to the device's memory and watch them on the road or in a hotel, on a smartphone or tablet. I regularly use this feature and I get irritated by websites that do not offer such a possibility, including eg HBO Go.
Watching movies and series on the smartphone screen is not as uncomfortable as it may seem. In our editorial team there are football fans who regularly watch matches in the Eleven app on your smartphone. There are also people who even have a TV in front of them, for some reasons prefer to reach for the tablet, because it is more convenient for them.
PLN 11 for Netflix, but only on your smartphone.
Netflix has just introduced a new plan , which is only available in India so far. Users can buy for Rs 199 (equivalent to PLN 11) access to Netflix, but only on a smartphone. There are more restrictions. The plan offers only standard quality (or 480p) and you can have only one user account in it. Netflix has blocked the possibility of sending images from the application to smart TV, so it is actually a service only for smartphones.
The decision on such a plan and implementation in India is not accidental. India is a huge market, but it is much poorer than other large economies. In India, many people do not have a TV or computer, but virtually everyone has a smartphone.
The announcement of the new plan also has an obvious business goal. In the last quarter, Netflix acquired 2.7 million new users, almost twice less than in the first quarter, when 5.1 million people came. In order to maintain the dynamics of growth, Netflix must look for new markets and new plans.
If such a plan were available in Poland, would you come into this?
The basic Netflix package in Poland costs 34 zlotys. We have SD quality in it and the ability to watch on one screen. The Standard package costs PLN 43 and allows you to view HD content on two screens. There is also a Premium package for PLN 52 with a 4K quality and the possibility of watching on parallel screens on four screens.
Would you be tempted by a mobile package priced at PLN 10-15 against these prices? Comments are at your disposal.
