I used 5G in Poland - first impressions
It is said that the 5G network will change our lives. And although this slogan sounds lofty, I believe in it. I had the opportunity to use the new generation network myself and I see that the difference with 4G technology is visible to the naked eye.
For more than a week I have been testing Huaweia Mate 20 X, the first officially available smartphone in Poland that supports the 5G network . This model is not really a novelty, but a refreshed version of the Mate 20 X model, which had its global premiere almost a year ago and never went to Poland.
It differs from the original only by two features that are closely related to each other. It uses a smaller battery (4200 instead of 5000 mAh), thanks to this change in the housing managed to fit the Balong 5000 modem supporting 5G communication in the NSA and SA standards. If you want to learn more about the Huawei Mate 20 X, I invite you to this post.
However, the new smartphone is not enough to check the 5G network. Currently only tests of a new type of communication are underway, which are not generally available. To use the new technology, you should not only have the right equipment, but also the SIM approved for the test program. Representatives of T-Mobile decided to give us such a card, thanks to which we could check the possibilities of the 5G network in Warsaw.
How fast is the 5G network?

The new type of connectivity primarily rises in terms of download speed. During the tests, we managed to achieve an oscillating result within the limits of 600 Mb / s, while representatives of T-Mobile boasted that the BTS located in the operator's office allows reaching the speed of 800 Mb / s.
These results may seem weak for a new technology that only three people used at one time. Finally, in similar conditions even LTE Advanced connectivity allowed for obtaining results in the Speedtest program at the level of 400-500 Mb / s. However, it is worth remembering that when using legacy connectivity, these were peaks, and the 5G network allowed for any use of this bandwidth.
It should also be added that the base station was connected to a fiber with a bandwidth of 1 Gb / s. For this reason, it was impossible to obtain download speeds of 1.3-1.6 Gb / s, which are often praised by smartphone manufacturers (including Huawei at the premiere of the Mate 20 X model). T-Mobile decided to do this because during the initial tests the link speed is not the most important aspect anyway.
How did the network work in practice? Stunningly good. Downloading the movie on Netfliks (700 MB) took just over 20 seconds. In turn, Asphalt 9 (1.8 GB) was downloaded in less than a minute. Out of curiosity I checked how much time the same title was downloaded on my smartphone with 4G connectivity. I downloaded both downloads at the same time, and when I was playing Huaweiu Mate 20 X, my private smartphone was proud to announce that it has already downloaded 7 percent. necessary data. Well bravo.
In other aspects, 5G did not shine like that anymore. The sending speeds were at a similar level (50 vs. 40 Mb / s in favor of 5G), while the delays proved identical (18 ms). These are slightly disappointing results, especially as according to T-Mobile representatives, better pings were to be the biggest advantage of new generation connectivity. I trust, however, that until the commercial implementation of the network, this will be improved.
What will change 5G connectivity in our lives?
First of all, he will kill and sterilize us all, as some studies say .

Faster, more modern access to the Internet will make our world change for the better. Already 3G and 4G networks have resulted in many services on the market that we use every day. Do you remember the world without services such as Netflix, Spotify, Uber, PizzaPortal, Google Maps and all their competitors? Yes, I do not think it was better. And it is the LTE network that has enabled us to use all these services with the help of our smartphone.
I am convinced that the 5G network will be the driving force behind development and will allow the world to keep moving forward. New generation connectivity will allow the spread of smart homes and autonomous cars. It will allow you to stream video content 360 degrees, as well as classic video in 8K or 16K resolution ( here is the video recorded in 12K on YouTube ). This in turn will open the door to the real virtual reality. Of course, there will be more of these applications, but I can not list them because ... I do not know them. Just like a decade ago, I did not know most of the services and equipment currently used by me, and the creation of which was possible thanks to successive generations of wireless Internet.
