The end of the world has been postponed. Huawei has 90 days to update Android and get things done
After the shock that yesterday shook the world of consumer electronics , there was a moment of respite. Huawei will not be cut off from American companies - in any case, not immediately.
As reported by Reuters , the United States government has decided to temporarily repeal the total ban on cooperation between Huawei and domestic entities. However, this does not mean withdrawal from strict restrictions. These will come, but with a delay.
Huawei has 90 days to settle his affairs.
The Chinese giant received a license lasting until August 19, under which it may still cooperate with American companies in a limited manner. Google will enable Huawei to upgrade existing smartphones to the new version of Android, so it's possible that the top models of the company will receive Android Q.
Huawei also had time to finish the processes he had begun. Deliveries of goods that have already left will not be stopped. The activities initiated, eg those concerning the development of the 5G network, may be continued. US companies using Huawei equipment (eg mobile operators) will receive time to replace equipment.
In other words: the end of the world has been postponed. This does not mean, however, that it will not come.
The Department of Commerce has left no illusions - currently there is no question of the total abolition of the ban and the removal of Huawei from the black list. 90 days of "grace" were not donated for Huawei, but for American companies that could lose a lot on immediate suspension of cooperation, institutions that continue to use Huawei equipment, and citizens, whose access to telephone communication is provided by equipment Chinese.
After 90 days, the administration of Donald Trump will decide what to do next.
The founder of Huawei claims that his company is ready.
In an interview with CCTV, the founder of Huawei Ren Zhengfei said directly that "the actions of the US government prove that it underestimates the company's capabilities."
In his opinion, Huawei is able to independently produce chips that it imports from the United States, but that does not mean that it will stop buying American electronics, because the company is "in conflict with the US government, not with US companies.
Ren Zhengfei also added that the 90-day relaxation of the ban does not change anything from the perspective of the company, because this has long been ready for a similar scenario. The official statement also ensures that even in the event of a ban, it will provide after-sales services to existing clients.
The good news is that Huawei's smartphones will not become bricks overnight.
The bad news is that if you were planning to buy a Chinese smartphone or computer, it would be better to pause with it, at least for those three months. The tension between the two powers is still growing, and so far there is no indication that after 19 August, the US government decided not to cooperate.
