Google will make sure that the Assistant will make life easier for the hearing impaired and deaf

One of the new features presented at Google I / O 2019 was the new Android and Assistant features designed for people with disabilities. Great emphasis has been placed on people who have hearing problems.

Because I do not hear myself as well as I would like it, the news presented by Google was very appealing to me. I am not alone - it is estimated that around half a billion people have similar problems around the world. The Mountain View giant has prepared new features for us.

They will join Live Transcribe.

The first of the tools Google talked about is the existing Live Transcribe. People who have hearing problems can run this function, which on the screen will show in real-time the transcription of the statements of a person in our environment. This, however, was already there. Other elements of the presentation were more interesting.

Live Caption, or subtitles, literally everything.

This is a real novelty that allows you to generate subtitles for any audio or video material - and locally. Just start the movie, hold down the volume button and select a new icon in the pop-up menu, and the screen will display a bar with real-time text.

Thanks to this, you can add subtitles not only to video clips found on the web, but also to those that we've recorded ourselves or got from friends. Great! Google reminds us that the audio material never leaves the phone. Live Caption works in addition to the entire system, not just in selected applications.

Live Relay, or Assistant as a Secretary.

The Live Relay function makes an even bigger impression. Thanks to her, the Assistant can become a real secretary. It can receive telephones on behalf of the user and, in real time, show the transcription of issues that the person on the other side of the handset says.

The smartphone owner does not have to answer these issues - all he has to do is write and the assistant on his behalf will read the answer. It seems to me even more interesting than the futuristic Google Duplex, which in theory is supposed to give us a complete remedy.

Project Euphonia

The fourth of the elements mentioned by the Google representative during the I / O 2019 conference is Project Euphonia. The company decided that it will try to make sure that it recognizes speech not only for people who speak loudly and clearly, but also for those who speak indistinctly due to disability.
