Android Q beta available now. Here is the complete list of compatible devices
The latest version of the Android mobile system, marked with the letter Q, is now available in beta for all users who would like to test it.
Well, at least for all users with a suitable telephone. The Beta Android Q is currently available for the following devices:
- Asus ZenFone 5Z
- Essential PH-1
- HMD Global Nokia 8.1
- Huawei Mate 20 Pro
- LG G8 ThinQ
- OnePlus 6T
- Oppo Reno
- Realme 3 Pro
- Sony Xperia XZ3
- Tecno Spark 3Pro
- Vivo X27
- Vivo NEX S
- Vivo NEX A
- Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G
- Xiaomi Mi 9
In addition, Google has released the latest version of Android for its Pixel smartphones. Interestingly, Q-beta will also be available to users of the first generation Pixel, whose official support was to end on Android Pie. It's quite a nice surprise.
Android Q beta - what's new?
Of course, as with beta versions, not all new features will be available immediately. Google on his blog mentions that their new mobile platform is still being expanded, so at the very beginning we can count on a small number of new features. Those that have been confirmed for now are:
- Night mode - one of the most important recent trends when it comes to software will finally appear on Android and at the system level. The dark background of the application will not only make our eyesight tedder a bit less, but will also help with less battery life. Unless, of course, we use a telephone equipped with an OLED display.
- New gestures - instead of three buttons, at the bottom of the screen on Android Q you will find a thin white bar. This is a new way of interacting with the system using gestures that are dangerously similar to those designed by Apple. As soon as we get a phone with Android Q installed, we will present this solution.
- Focus mode - so-called focus mode will be a new mode in which only applications that will allow it will work. Google explains this with the desire to increase our productivity. I wonder how this solution will work in practice.
- Privacy settings - Android Q largely focuses on the security of our data. For this purpose, among others, Scoped Storage function, which creates isolated sandboxes for applications, so the user has more control over the data that the system provides them. We will also receive clear messages about what we are specifically sharing with the application and the new application scanning system in the Play store. Let's hope it will be more effective than the current one.
- Bubbles - new notification bubbles that can be activated for each application. How it's working? Instead of notification and an appropriate icon on the top bar, a balloon appears on the desktop, under which notifications from various applications are grouped. After clicking on the "ball" you can immediately react to the notification or write to the message, as is now the notification bar.
