Pekao SA has the ambition to set trends, especially in the area of online banking. The bank with the bison boasted its achievements over the last months. And he announced what he is going to do by the end of 2019.
This is a unique process when it comes to Poland. No other bank offers this way of opening an account. I believe that from the customers' point of view it is a breakthrough and revolutionary solution - said Michał Krupiński, president of Pekao SA.
What are we talking about? The new method of creating an account offered by Pekao since January. Now an account can be set up using the PeoPay app. All you have to do is enter your name, login, e-mail address, and then scan the ID card with your phone and take a selfie , exactly three seconds long videos on which you have to set your face in different positions.
Immediately after verification, the customer can start to "bank". Limitations when setting up such an account are small and concern, for example, the establishment of a trusted profile through the online banking service. Then the client has to appear for a moment in the facility and allow him to verify his identity.
A slightly similar proposal for users is when creating an account mBank. In his case, however, the client must connect with the employee via videoconferencing. And in one case and in another you do not have to leave your home - however, the Pekao solution is less time-consuming. On the other hand, the video connection allows the consultant to ask a few questions. Both options have their pros and cons.
The first data collected by Pekao shows that 25 percent. Customers decide to set up a self-service account outside of opening hours. What can mean that the bank reached people for whom appearance in the branch before 17 has been a problem so far.
Until recently, Pekao was considered a bank that is catching up. The year 2018 was especially intense in this respect, when clients were allowed to for paying with Blik .
In this way, the bank develops the functions of PeoPay launched several years ago. Pekao allows you to pay with it, so you do not have to insert a card under it. Actually - PaoPay itself is a payment card.
The application has been giving you the opportunity to pay online for a few weeks. Just select the logo with the bison on the site, scan the QR code and confirm the operation with the ePIN code. We can also transfer money to other PeoPay users using the address book on the phone.
The mobile application also allows you to withdraw money at ATMs, check your account balance without logging in to the system (set the base amount, and the system displays the percentage balance result), use Apple Pay, manage cards, submit applications 300+ and gives you access to the office PeoPay 24 hours a day.
Despite the digital transformation, Pekao SA is expected to be quite restrained this year in terms of cutting the number of bank branches. In recent years, over a hundred of them have been closed. Many customers still use traditional banking. Changes may include the installation of cash deposit machines, limiting the space and carrying out the process of digitizing documents.

In April, the bank wants to automate the loan process in branches. In June you will be able to create self-help accounts for micro companies. At the turn of the 3rd and 4th quarter, customers will get a new version of the Pekao24 website.

Pekao SA has a great year also in financial terms. In 2018, the Polish bank earned PLN 2.29 billion purely - by 11 percent. more than in 2017. For the first time since 2014, we managed to exceed the double-digit result (10.2%) in terms of return on equity.
