Huawei P20 - we check if it is worth buying from operators
Huawei P30 makes a great impression , but - as it is a market novelty - it has to cost. So he can choose the previous generation, P20 instead, preferably in the operator's offer?
What are the operators' offers tempting? First of all, the fact that we can buy a phone for - theoretically - less than in the store. Instead of PLN 1,500, 1,600 or 2,000, we pay, for example, PLN 200, and spread the rest into equal installments.
We do all the formalities in one place. We do not have to go to the store first and then to the salon to get a SIM card. One visit, one signature (well, maybe a little more) and we already have everything - a telephone and a set of services.
Only if the Huawei P20 is worth it?
Huawei P20 - price on the open market
Huawei P20 is available on the Polish market in two variants differing in the amount of available memory for data. You can choose from either 64 GB or 128 GB. In addition, there are no differences - both varieties have at least 4 GB of RAM.
However, you can choose between the colors of the housings - in total there are four, from black, through blue and pink, to Twilight . But this does not affect the price.
According to price comparison engines, for a 64 GB variant, you have to pay around PLN 1,600 without a contract today. If we're interested in 128 GB, we need to pay about 400 PLN.
And how is the operator?
Orange
The Orange Huawei P20 is temporarily unavailable . Unfortunately, it is not possible to make any profitability calculations for it.
T-Mobile
In T-Mobile, P20 is the most accessible, but only in two colors - black and purple (it's probably the whole twilight ) - and only in the 64 GB version.
With a commitment for PLN 60 a month, the sense of buying a P20 with a subscription is minimal. We pay for the phone PLN 1529, that is, a few dozen zlotys less than in the store. The fact that we get unlimited calls to landline numbers, unlimited SMS and internet without data limit (well, no limit to 10 GB) in no way implies the fact that we are contracted for two years. And this is a contract with a monthly commitment amount higher than in the case of similar offers on a card.
At the contract (the same conditions as the amount) for PLN 80 a month, the Huawei P20 costs PLN 1149 already. At PLN 100 a month - PLN 849, at PLN 110 a month - PLN 699, while from PLN 130, the cost of a telephone is only PLN 1.
So let's reject the base offer as pointless and those from PLN 130 up - it is not worth signing a contract for two years, for well over PLN 100, for a previous generation telephone. There are 3 options - 80, 100 and 110 PLN per month. Is one of them profitable?
For comparison, we will use the T-Mobile card offer, where for PLN 30 a month we have everything without a limit and 10 GB of data. There is also an offer for PLN 25, in which there are no free MMS and video transfer from selected websites, so if you like, you can deduct from the final amount of PLN 120 (24 months for a PLN 5 difference).
Assuming a 24-month period of adventure with T-Mobile, when buying a phone in the store and buying a pre-paid offer, for 2 years we will pay in total PLN 2319 for all (PLN 1599 plus PLN 720 for top-up card).
In the case of subscription tariffs, the sum of the subscription and smartphone costs when purchasing with the subscription will be:
- For the tariff for PLN 60 - PLN 3069 (PLN 1149 for the phone plus PLN 1920 for services)
- For the tariff for 100 PLN - 3249 PLN (849 PLN plus 2400 PLN for services)
- For the tariff for 110 PLN - 3339 PLN (699 PLN plus 2640 PLN for services)
No sense. Just in case, I checked the version for PLN 130, where we pay 1 PLN for the phone. There, the total cost is PLN 3121 (PLN 1 for a telephone and PLN 3,120 for services).
Conclusion: P20 is a great phone, and T-Mobile has a very good offer on the card. Combine the dots.
Play
In Play, in a standard tariff, there are up to 7 price options for a monthly commitment, on which the initial price of the device depends.
It looks like:
- PLN 70 monthly - PLN 1159 for the start
- PLN 80 per month - PLN 949
- 90 PLN per month - 799 PLN
- PLN 100 per month - PLN 549
- 110 PLN per month - 319 PLN
- 120 PLN per month - 199 PLN
- PLN 130 monthly - PLN 1
So the zloty threshold is the same here as in T-Mobile. And how does the cost-effectiveness of such a purchase compare with a free purchase?
For comparison, we will take this Play offer on the card for PLN 30 this year, which has everything without a limit, and adds to the roaming piece. The total cost of course is the same as in T-Mobile - PLN 2319. We can deduct PLN 120 if we are not interested in unlimited internet (instead of 10 GB) and a roaming micro-packet.
In subscription, it looks like this:
- PLN 70 monthly - PLN 2839 of the total cost (PLN 1159 for a telephone and PLN 1680 for services)
- 80 PLN per month - 2869 PLN (949 PLN for phone and 1920 PLN for services)
- PLN 90 per month - PLN 2959 (PLN 799 for a telephone and PLN 2160 for services)
- PLN 100 per month - PLN 2,949 (PLN 549 for a telephone and PLN 2,400 for services)
- PLN 110 monthly - PLN 2959 (PLN 319 for a telephone and PLN 2640 for services)
- 120 PLN per month - 3079 PLN (199 PLN for the phone and 2880 PLN for services)
- PLN 130 monthly - PLN 3121 (PLN 1 for a telephone and PLN 3120 for services)
Theoretically, the first two offers are defended, but we overpay several hundred zlotys in exchange for the fact that we do not have to pay the full amount for the phone to start. Only that these starting amounts are so small that it is better to buy a phone in installments of 0%.
Conclusion: Play also has an excellent card offer.
Plus
In Plus, Huawei P20 is available in four tariff plans, from 30 to 70 zlotys per month. The two most expensive options (50 and 70 zlotys per month) offer everything without limit, while cheaper versions have limited data packages (30 zlotys - 2 GB, 40 zlotys - 4 GB).
Complications of total costs will be a little more complicated, because Plus offers the lowest starting fees (applause), but then it adds separately installments for the device. It looks like:
- PLN 30 monthly subscription - PLN 1248 for a start device - PLN 31 monthly installment
- PLN 40 monthly - PLN 199 per device - PLN 75 monthly installments
- 50 PLN per month - 199 PLN for the device - 75 PLN installments
- PLN 70 monthly - PLN 199 per device - PLN 75 installments
In the first variant, the final cost is shockingly good for current offers and amounts to PLN 2712 (PLN 1248 for a telephone, PLN 720 for a subscription, PLN 744 for a device). Unfortunately, this is a tariff with 2 GB of the internet package, which is not enough for a phone like the Huawei P20.
In the tariff for PLN 40 a month, we already have a more reasonable 4 GB of internet, but there the final cost is PLN 2959 (PLN 199 for a telephone, PLN 960 for a subscription, PLN 1,800). In the first unlimited, for PLN 50 a month, we will finally pay PLN 3199 (PLN 199 for a telephone, PLN 1200 for a subscription, PLN 1,800 for a device), while in this PLN 70 - PLN 3679 (PLN 199 for a telephone, PLN 1680 for subscription, 1800 PLN installments).
Conclusion: Plus has a fantastic card offer. For PLN 25 a month, we have unlimited calls to everyone, unlimited SMS and MMS, and 10 GB of internet.
